Tonight we’re having our last regular Monday rehearsal for the season before summer break. This Saturday, June 15 (date change due to rain), is our final scheduled concert of the season, Singing in the Park (with selections from George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess as well as Spirituals Galore!). We’ve had a wonderful time with so many fun rehearsals and great events:
- “In Silent Night” Christmas concert @ Baptist Bible Fellowship (BBF)
- Beloved Community Commemorative Service (MLKjr Day) @ Bright Star Baptist Church
- Celebrating Black History Month @ St. Rest Baptist Church
- Traveled to Baton Rouge to perform at the Heritage Festival of the Negro Spiritual @ Shiloh MBC
- The Baton Rouge Heritage choir came up here to perform at our own Festival of the Negro Spiritual @ BBF
- A true honor, singing for the North Louisiana Civil Rights Coalition’s Living Legends Gala Honoring Maxine Sarpy!
- and closing out the season with this upcoming Singing in the Park concert @ Caddo Common Park
Please come to our final concert of the season on Saturday, June 15, at 3 ㏘ (or earlier) at Caddo Common Park, and enjoy wonderful music and food trucks and other activities with your families. And if you like what you hear, please consider joining us for our 55ᵗʰ season starting in August. Several new members joined us this season, and you hear them sing with us on the 15ᵗʰ and can join us also next season! Watch this space, or Like and Follow us on Facebook, to keep updated, not only about rehearsals and upcoming concerts, but about some other announcements we may be announcing.
Please do not come to our rehearsal location during the summer until the new season starts! We won’t be there.
In closing: as I post this, today is Memorial Day. It’s not a day of celebration, but of reflection and mourning over those who gave their lives for this nation. We of the New Arts Cultural Society and New Dimensions Choral Society are as patriotic as we are musical and spiritual. We open every rehearsal with “The Star-Spangled Banner” after our warm-ups. Thank you so much for your sacrifice, all who gave their lives and the families they left behind, that we may have this free nation.
